The “I” Personality

The life of the Party. We all know one. Maybe it’s you? In this message we look at the strengths and weaknesses of the Influential personality type through the life of Peter.

Relating to the “Life of the Party” I-Personality

Don’t forget the RULES:

  1. No personality type is BETTER or WORSE than another.
  2. Beware of the tendency to REDUCE people to a set of LETTERS
  3. Personality type is not a valid excuse for INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR.
  4. God’s goal is to maximize your personality by producing the FRUIT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN YOUR LIFE.

 

Remember our OBJECTIVE:

The Goal of this study is to reduce relational conflicts by gaining AWARENESS, APPRECIATION and ACCEPTANCE of each person’s uniqueness

A Verse to Ponder:

1 John 4:20-21 [Msg] If anyone boasts, “I love God,” and goes right on hating his brother or sister, thinking nothing of it, he is a liar. If he won’t love the person he can see, how can he love the God he can’t see? The command we have from Christ is blunt: Loving God includes loving people. You’ve got to love both.

1.Identifying the “I” type personality.

1. The Life-of the-Party I-personalities have an unusually strong set of SOCIAL SKILLS.

2. Because I’s are socially gifted, they desire RELATIONAL INFLUENCE.

3. I-personalities prefer CHANGE in their environment over maintenance.

4. I’s emphasize PEOPLE and IDEAS over results and tasks.

5. The greatest fear of an I-personality is social SOCIAL REJECTION.

2. Relating to the I-Personality

TEXT: Mark 14:29-35,37-38

1. You and I can be of great service to them by gently helping them to face the limits of REALITY

Peter tells Jesus – I will never deny you! Jesus tells Peter – Yes you will.

2. When confronting the “I-type” it’s a good idea to focus on the FUTURE rather than the PAST

3. Be RELATIONAL before giving instructions.

4. Remember to transfer talk [all the relational stuff] to a specific ACTION PLAN.

Jesus reveals to Peter exactly what he wants him to do. Feed my sheep!

5. Don’t allow the “I” to “Shift the focus to OTHERS.
