Relating to the “Life of the Party” I-Personality
Don’t forget the RULES:
- No personality type is BETTER or WORSE than another.
- Beware of the tendency to REDUCE people to a set of LETTERS
- Personality type is not a valid excuse for INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR.
- God’s goal is to maximize your personality by producing the FRUIT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN YOUR LIFE.
Remember our OBJECTIVE:
The Goal of this study is to reduce relational conflicts by gaining AWARENESS, APPRECIATION and ACCEPTANCE of each person’s uniqueness
A Verse to Ponder:
1 John 4:20-21 [Msg] If anyone boasts, “I love God,” and goes right on hating his brother or sister, thinking nothing of it, he is a liar. If he won’t love the person he can see, how can he love the God he can’t see? The command we have from Christ is blunt: Loving God includes loving people. You’ve got to love both.
1.Identifying the “I” type personality.
1. The Life-of the-Party I-personalities have an unusually strong set of SOCIAL SKILLS.
2. Because I’s are socially gifted, they desire RELATIONAL INFLUENCE.3. I-personalities prefer CHANGE in their environment over maintenance.
4. I’s emphasize PEOPLE and IDEAS over results and tasks.
5. The greatest fear of an I-personality is social SOCIAL REJECTION.
2. Relating to the I-Personality
TEXT: Mark 14:29-35,37-38
1. You and I can be of great service to them by gently helping them to face the limits of REALITY
Peter tells Jesus – I will never deny you! Jesus tells Peter – Yes you will.
2. When confronting the “I-type” it’s a good idea to focus on the FUTURE rather than the PAST
3. Be RELATIONAL before giving instructions.
4. Remember to transfer talk [all the relational stuff] to a specific ACTION PLAN.
Jesus reveals to Peter exactly what he wants him to do. Feed my sheep!
5. Don’t allow the “I” to “Shift the focus to OTHERS.
