Pebbles And Rocks

Rocks and Pebbles are similar but not the same. So which one are You?
John 21:15-19

 1. The Significance of Three

John 21:15-19
When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?”  “Yes, Lord”, he said, “You know that I love you.”  Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”  Again Jesus said, Simon son of John, do you love me?”  He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”  Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”  The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”  Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?”  He said, “Lord, you know all things; and you know that I love you.”  Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.  Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.”  Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God.  Then he said to him, “Follow me!”

 2. Satan’s double edged Strategy

A. He tried to convince us that we are not capable of falling into sin.

B. Once we have sinned Satan whispers that we cannot be

 3. Jesus’ Comparisons of Details

A. Their conversation followed a miraculous catch of fish.

Luke 5:6, 8, 10-11
When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.  When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!”  For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, and so were James and John, then sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners.  Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.”

 B. The denial came after supper.

John 13:2
The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus.

 C. The setting was around a fire.

John 18: 18, 25
It was cold, and the servants and officials stood around a fire they had made to keep warm.  Peter also was standing with them, warming himself. So they asked him, “You aren’t one of his disciples too, are you?”  He denied it, saying, I am not.”

 D. The final detail involved

Matthew 26:31
Then Jesus told them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written:  “’I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’”

 4. The three questions Jesus asked Peter in grammatical terms.

 C. The positive test of Peter’s love.

John 21:17
