Romans 4:15
15 because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.

Romans 4:16-17
16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, 

Romans 4:17
(as it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

Habakkuk 2:4 …the just shall live by his faith.

Romans 1:17b  the just shall live by faith.

Galatians 3:11b         the just shall live by faith.

Hebrews 10:38a the just shall live by faith

But without faith it is impossible to please him:

By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

1. Abraham Had LAND He Had To LEAVE

Genesis 12:1
Get out of your country, from your kindred and from your father’s house, 

to a land I will show you…

Genesis 12:1
Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

V4 So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him;

James 2:22
Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

2. Abraham Had a Love He Must Let Go Of.

Genesis 17:16

“I will bless her and also give you a son by her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of peoples shall be from her” 

Genesis 17:17
When Abraham heard that he “fell on his face and laughed and said in his heart, ‘Shall a child be born to a man who is one hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old bear a child?’” 

Genesis 17:18
“Oh, that Ishmael might live before You!” 

3. Abraham Had A LIFE He Must LOSE

Genesis 22:2-3
“Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, ‘Abraham!’ And he said, ‘Here I am.’”

“And He said, ‘Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains which I shall tell you’” 

Genesis 22:12
“And He said, ‘Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me’” 

What does it mean to Live by Faith?
