Not one of all the LORD’s good promises to Israel failed; everyone was fulfilled.
Joshua 21:45

  • We need to KNOW His promises.

O LORD.  For the sake of your servant and according to your will, you have done this great thing and made known all these great promises.
1 Chronicles 17:19

  • We need to UNDERSTAND His promises.

For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ.  And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.
2 Corinthians 1:20

  • We need to PURSUE His promises.

My eyes stay open through the watches of the night that I may meditate on your promises.
Psalm 119: 148

God’s Core Promises

Therefore, say to the Israelites:  “I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.  I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment.  I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God.  Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.”
Exodus 6: 6-7

  1. “I will bring you out.”

God promises me SALVATION.

At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures.  We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another.  But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy.  He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.  This is a trustworthy saying.  And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good.  These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.
Titus 3:3-8

  1. “I will free you.”

God promises me DELIVERANCE.

So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in the sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.  Therefore, there is now no commendation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.
Romans 7:25-8:2

  1. “I will redeem you.”

God promises me RESTORATION.

It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for.  Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone.
Ephesians 1:11-12 MSG

  1. “I will take you as my own people.”

God promises me FULFILLMENT.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
John 10:10
