The Greatest Preacher-The Greatest Sermon

The Beatitudes
Matthew 5:1-10

Jesus-The Master Teacher

John 3:2
This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”

Jesus’ authority was based on five factors.

  1. Truth
  2. Compassion
  3. Practicality
  4. Judgment
  5. Personal Authority

A verse by verse look at the Beatitudes.

Matthew 5: 1-10
And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him.
2 Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,For they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,For they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,For they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,For they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,For they shall be called sons of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Psalm 139: 23-24
Search me, O God, and know my heart;Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.

2Corinthians 13:11
Finally, brethren, farewell. Become complete. Be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.

Matthew 7:24-29
24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

28 And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, 29 for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
