Luke 22:31-34
31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: 32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. 33 And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death. 34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

Status:
“The position of an individual in relation to another or others, especially in regard to social or professional standing”.

Peter’s Status IDENTIFIED (A Primary Leader)

Matthew 10:2a
Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter…

Matthew List of The 12

  1. Simon, who is called Peter,
  2. and Andrew his brother;
  3. James the son of Zebedee, and
  4. John his brother;
  5. Philip, and
  6. Bartholomew;
  7. Thomas, and
  8. Matthew the publican;
  9. James the son of Alphaeus, and
  10. Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus;
  11. Simon the Canaanite,
  12. Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

Peter’s Status was STIGMATIZED

 Judas is invaded by SATAN     v3
Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.

Jesus gets Specific about Betrayal     v21-22
21 But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table. 22 And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!

Disciples get Suspicious of Each Other     v23
And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.

Strife Follows Suspicion      v24
And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.

Simon’s Status is Confronted   v31-32 AMP
Simon, Simon (Peter), listen! Satan has demanded permission to sift [all of] you like grain; 32 but I have prayed [especially] for you [Peter], that your faith [and confidence in Me] may not fail; and you, once you have turned back again [to Me], strengthen and support your brothers [in the faith].

The Root of Peter’s Need for Conversion

  • Leaders require Aptitude – Thirst to learn
  • Leadership requires Action – was not afraid to try.
  • Peter’s Problem – Attitude React vs. Act
