Righteous or Self-Righteous

• Self Righteousness  – sactiminoius, holier-than-thou, false moral superioriority
  • Satan’s – Isaiah 14:12-14
    • Satan says “I, My, Mine”
    • my throne, like the Most High  
    • Jealousy of God’s Authority
    • Result = vs 12-fallen from Heaven, cut down to the ground
                     vs 15- brought down to the lowest depths of the pit
  • Jews’ – Romans 9:31-32 righteousness by works
    • Romans 10:1-4 Establish their own righteousness, do not submit to God
    • Result= 9:1 they did not attain righteousness  ;  10:1 They are not saved
  • Ours – Romans 3:11-12 
    • None who does good
    • Romans 7:18 – “I know in my flesh no good thing dwells”
    • Galatians 3:2-3 false gospel “Begin in the Spirit and perfected by the flesh?”
    • Result = Galatians 3:13-14 Cursed, Do not receive the promise- Holy Spirit by faith;  

• The Anatomy of a Righteous Person
  • Isaiah 33:15

CONTRAST OF SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS WITH GOD’s RIGHTEOUSNESS

• God’s Righteousness
  • Deuteronomy 32:4 – perfect, His ways are justice, without injustice
  • Psalm 119:142 – everlasting, law is truth

“God is absolutely and immutably (unable to Change) right not wrong. His thoughts, His choices and His actions are right. Whatever God does is right by definition.”

• Justice, Mercy, Forgiveness, Judgement in CONTINUOUS PERFECTION
• Anything less than this is Self-Righteousness

–Righteouness Revealed

• Romans 1:16-17 – “it” the Gospel reveals God’s Righteousness
  • Righteousness of God has been uncovered and shown to us through the Faith God has given us.  God’s Righteousness and Faith are eternally connected.
• Romans 3:21-26 – (22) revealed by Faith in Christ Jesus 
  • To all and UPON ALL who BELIEVE (Faith)
  • payment of our Debt
  • Previous -before Jesus crucifixion, death, resurrection(Gospel)
  • Present Time – God is Just & Justifier CONTINUOUS PERFECTION
• Galatians 3:22-27
  • 23 -going back in time- before faith came
  • 24-until Christ came
  • 24- justified by faith in Christ – we are put in Christ, God’s Righteousness is placed in Us
  • 26- faith in Jesus saves us
  • 27- Put On.  God’s faith and righteousness are put on us
