Luke 19:16-20, James 4:13-17
Luke 19:16-20
16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, the ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: 17 And he thought within himself, saying, what shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? 18 And he said, this will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. 20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
James 4:13-17
13Go to now, ye that say, today or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: 14Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanishes away. 15For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. 16But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. 17Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
HIS ARROGANCE
This man thought he knew WHEN he was going.
James 4:13
Come now, you who say, today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city.
He thought he knew WHERE he was going.
James 4:13
We will go to such and such a city.
He thought he knew WHO was going with Him.
James 4:13
…WE WILL GO to such and such a city.
He thought he knew WHAT he was going to be doing.
James 4:13
“…we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell and make a profit.
He thought he knew HOW LONG he would be there.
James 4:13

James 4:15-16
Instead you ought to say; If the Lord wills we shall live and do this or that but now you boast in your arrogance all such boasting is evil.
HIS IGNORANCE
James 4:14a
“Whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow…

Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.

HIS DISOBEDIENCE
James 4:17
Therefore to him who know s to do good, and DOES NOT DO IT, to him IT IS SIN.
