God Is Our Refuge

God should be our refuge.

Deuteronomy 32:26-27
There is none like unto the God of Jeshurun, who rideth upon the heaven in thy help, and in his excellency on the sky.

27The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.

Psalm 9:9
The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.

Psalm 46:1-7
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

2Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

3Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah

4There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.

5God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.

6The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.

7The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.

We All Need a Refuge.

Man-Made Refuge Will Fail Us

Psalm 115:2-4
2 Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now their God? But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.

Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.

Psalm 115:5-8
They have mouths, but they speak not:

eyes have they, but they see not:

they have ears, but they hear not:

noses have they, but they smell not:

they have hands, but they handle not:

feet have they, but they walk not:
neither speak they through their throat.

They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them.

Psalm 115:9

O Israel, TRUST THE LORD!  He is your helper.  He is your shield

How Do We Make God Our Refuge?

  • Turn To God

  • Talk to God

  • Trust God

2 Samuel 22:3-7
The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my Savior; thou savest me from violence.

4I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. 5When the waves of death compassed me, the floods of ungodly men made me afraid; 6The sorrows of hell compassed me about; the snares of death prevented me;

7In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.
