Dark Times

1 Peter 2:21
For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

Mark 14:32-36
³² And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray. ³³ And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy; 

³⁴ and saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch. 

³⁵ And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. ³⁶ And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.

1.  The REALITY of Dark Times

The Dark Time caused Jesus to feel FEAR 

Mark 14:33
And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;

…and began to be struck with terror and amazement…

The Dark time Caused Jesus to feel SADNESS

Mark 14:34 Amp
³⁴And He said to them, My soul is exceedingly sad (overwhelmed with grief) so that it almost kills Me!…

Hebrews 5:7
Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, in that he feared.

The Dark time Caused Jesus to feel DREAD

Mark 14:35-36
And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. 

³⁶And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt. 

The Dark Time Caused Jesus to feel Emotional Pain

Luke 22:44
And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

The Dark Time caused Jesus to feel Loneliness 

Mark 14:37- 40
And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour? 

⁴⁰And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him. 

2. Our REACTION to Dark Times

We need to PRAY

Mark 14:2
And they came to an olive grove called Gethsemane, and Jesus said, “Sit here while I go and pray

We need PEOPLE

Mark 14:33
³³He took Peter, James, and John with him,

We need PERSPECTIVE

Mark 14:36
³⁶And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.
