Church Snobs

Fellowship in the church
James 2:1-10

1. The Prohibition of Prejudices

 James 1:1
“My brethren, have NOT the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of Glory, with respect of persons.”

2. The Problem of Partiality

James 1:2-3
For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:

James 2:2
2For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;

James 2:2
2For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;

James 2:3
3And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:

James 2:4
Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?

3. The Position of The Poor

James 2:5a
Hath not God chosen the poor of this world…

James 2:5
Hearken, my beloved brethren.  Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

1 Corinthians 1:26-29
 26For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 27But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 29That no flesh should glory in his presence.

James 2:5c
5Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

Mark 12:35-36
35 And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the son of David? 36 For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool.

Mark 12:37
37 David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly.
