Ephesians 6:1-4

Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

Honour thy father and mother; 

(which is THE FIRST COMMANDMENT with promise😉

that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

The Law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

The 10 Commandments

FIRST FOUR (How we relate to God)

  1. You shall have no other gods before Me.
  2. You shall not make for yourself an idol or bow down to any image.  
  3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.  
  4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.  

LAST SIX (How we relate to one another)

  1. Honor your father and your mother. 
  2. You shall not murder.  
  3. You shall not commit adultery. – 
  4. You shall not steal.  
  5. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
  6. You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor.

Deuteronomy 27:16
Cursed is anyone who dishonors their father or mother.”

Proverbs 20:20
Whoso curses his father or his mother,
his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.

Proverbs 30:17
The eye that mocketh at his father,
and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.

Mark 7:10
For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother [with respect and gratitude]’; and, ‘He who speaks evil of his father or mother must be put to death’;

Ephesians 6:4
And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

  1. As Children we must Obey our Parents.

Colossians 3:20
Childrenobey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.

  1. As Adults we Should Consider them.

Proverbs 1:8
Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.”

Proverbs 23:22
Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.”

  1. When they Are Old, we should Care for Them. 

Mark 7:9-11
And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

10 For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:

11 But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.

Mark 7:12-13
12 And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;

13 making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.
