A Different Kind Of Freedom

Galatians 5:13-14

“Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

1. The Promise of Freedom

John 8:32-33
³² And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

³³ They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?

2. The Purpose of Freedom

John 8:34
³⁴ Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

³⁵ And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.

³⁶ If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

3. The Power of Freedom

Galatians 5:13-14
¹³For you have been CALLED to live in freedom–not freedom to satisfy your sinful 

nature, but freedom to serve one another in love.

Free To OVERCOME The FLESH

1. A Sinful CONFLICT  

Galatians 5:17
¹⁷The old sinful nature loves to do evil, which is just opposite from what the Holy Spirit wants. 

And the Spirit gives us desires that are opposite from what the sinful nature desires. 

These two forces are constantly fighting each other, and your choices are never free from this conflict.

Galatians 5:18
¹⁸But when you are directed by the Holy Spirit, you are no longer subject to the law.

2. Specific CATEGORIES

• sensual sins – 

Galatians 5:19
When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, your lives will produce these evil results: sexual immorality, impure thoughts, eagerness for lustful pleasure,

• superstitious sins –

Galatians 5:20a
idolatry, participation in demonic activities, 

• social sins – 

Galatians 5:20b-21
…hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, divisions, the feeling that everyone is wrong except those in your own little group, ²¹envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other kinds of sin.
