Why People Fuss And Fight

The problem everyone has that leads to strife.
James 3:15-17, 4:17

James 3:15-17
15This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. 16For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. 17But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

James 4:1-10
From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

James 4:1 NLT
What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Isn’t it the whole army of evil desires at war within you?

Peace TAKERS

SELFISHNESS self interest, self centeredness, egotism

James 4:1 (Message)
Where do you think all these appalling wars and quarrels come from? Do you think they just happen? Think again. They come about because you want your own way, and fight for it deep inside yourselves.

James 4:1
1From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

Mark 12:30-31
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. 31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

JEALOUSY suspicion, resentment, distrust

James 4:2a
Ye lust, and have not:

Song of Solomon 8:6b
…love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave:

James 4:2 NLT
You are jealous for what others have, and you can’t possess it, so you fight and quarrel to take it away from them.

James 4:2
2Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain:

PRAYERLESSNESS

James 4:2c
2Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

James 4:3
3Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

WORLDLINESS

James 4:4-5
4Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. 5Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?

James 4:4 Message
4You’re cheating on God. If all you want is your own way, flirting with the world every chance you get, you end up enemies of God and his way.

PRIDE arrogance, conceit, smugness

James 4:6a
God resisteth the proud,

The Peace MAKERS

HUMILITY

James 4:6b
but giveth grace unto the humble.

OBEDIENCE

James 4:7a
Submit yourselves therefore to God.

REPENTANCE

James 4:7b-11
Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. 9Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. 11Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
