The “S” Personality

The Steady Personality. In this message we look at the strengths and weaknesses of the phlegmatic personality type through the life of Abraham.

1. Identifying The “S” Type Personality.

1. “S” personalities are marked STRONG PERSONAL         CONSISTENCY.

2. “S’s” desire STABILITY and PRACTICALITY.

3. “S” personalities prefer to MAINTAIN their environment rather than CHANGE IT.

4. “S” personalities prefer PEOPLE AND IDEAS over tasks and results.

  1. The greatest FEAR of an “S” personality is CONFLICT.

6. Their greatest CHALLENGE is to accept that ALL CHANGE ISN’T BAD.

2. Relating to the “S” Personality

1. Allow TIME to PROCESS a request for change.

Genesis 11:31

31 Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Harran, they settled there.

Genesis 12:1, 4 (NLT)

12 Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

2. Give SPECIFIC REASONS for the change.

Genesis 12:2

and I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

3. Honor the importance they place on STABILITY.

Genesis 13:8-9

And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren. Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.

4. Don’t expect them to FULLY ACCEPT the change until stability is restored.

Genesis 13:15,17

15 for all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever. 16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered. 17 Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.

5. ENCOURAGEMENT and support will produce SECURITY in an “S”.

James 2:23

23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God
