Jesus Came Along

Jesus speaks life into any situation.
Luke 7:12-17

  • When Jesus came along, it was during a time of death

(Luke 7: 14)
Then he went up and touched the bier they were carrying him on, and the bearers stool still.  He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!

(Genesis 2:16, 17 KJV)
And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:  But the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it:  for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

(Romans 6:23)
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  • When Jesus came along it was a time of desperation

(Luke 7:12)
As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow.  And a large crowed from the town with her.

(Ephesians 2:1-3)
As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.  All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts.  Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.

  • When Jesus came along it was a time of deliverance

(Luke 7: 13-17)
When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.”  Then he went up and touched the coffin, and those carrying it stood still.  He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!”  The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.  They were all filled with awe and praised God.  “A great prophet has appeared among us,” they said.  “God has come to help his people.  This news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding country.

  • That afternoon at the gates of Nain:

  1. Two groups met

  2. Two sons met

  3. Two sufferers met

  4. Two enemies met

  • Jesus overcame death and desperation. Notice how he overcame both by his power.

  1. The sovereign Lord spoke peace to a suffering lady.

  2. The sovereign Lord spoke life to a dead man.

  • When the Champion of life met death in Nain life prevailed.

(John 5:25)

Very truly I tell you, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live.
